No Tears in Heaven

This is an absolutely amazing piece.....Brings tears to my eyes everytime I read it...It embodies all that I admire so greatly in those who serve this country.

“We volunteered to be here sir,” First Sergeant McNeely flatly explained. “You see, no Soldier, Marine, Sailor, Airmen, or Coast Guardsmen ought to arrive to Heaven without a proper greeting. It’s the least we can do considering their sacrifices. And I’d like to add, that through those gates are at least a thousand others who have volunteered to take our place here.”

Here is the link to read the whole story, a story that deserves to be read by all.http://sgthook.com/2006/04/10/no-tears-in-heaven/

Bridget, you're young, you're intelligent, and you're beautiful. Ok, that's the flattery out of the way. As part of your studies, do you ever, or might you ever have to examine the perspective of those who are not in favour of this war? I am not one of them, by the way, although I did have misgivings about the WMD issue at first.

Thanks for the flattery SC:)

As for your question...I must say my overwhelming pride for my country has made me, for lack of a better word... not give a damn about those who are not in favor....my beliefs are when your country is at war, you stand behind those who are willing to fight...it's the least we can do for what they sacrifice... I'm not saying this way of thinking is right...just the way I feel...Disagreeing with the war does not do any good IMHO...But supporting our troops...can be very powerful.

You're welcome. That's an interesting answer. I feel pretty much the same way. But suppose a lecturer asked you to try to separate your emotions on the issue and to try to be objective? Do you think that being able to demonstrate an understanding of different or even opposing points of view might stand you in an even stronger position to argue your point of view?

Well SC...once again with the deep questions:) you make good points..and the stubborn Taurus in me makes it hard for me to be objective at times..but you are right...It's important to look at the other side....as much as I might disagree with it, it still bears some understanding...and yes.. definately could make my point of view stronger..
Thanks for the thought provoking questions SC:)

LOL, sorry to dig away like that. I've found blogging one of the more educational experiences of my life. I love just being able to look things up on Wikipedia or wherever and gain a whole new insight into a subject. Having said that, your patriotism is to be commended and if you'll forgive me for saying so, is pretty damn sexy too.

Ok, I've thought of one. I'm your new lecturer, and my name is Professeur Le Pew. Today is your exam day. Sorry about the short notice. Luckily, you have a choice of two questions.

Question One.
Please finish this short story about your experiences in the Vietnam War.

You are the mother of two boys, aged 10 and 12, who joined the armed forces. You haven't heard from them in over six months. You have learnt how to use a rifle. You live in underground tunnels most of the time and haven't slept for five days because of the bombing. You can hear somebody crying a few feet away in one of the tunnels which collapsed last night. Or it may have happened in the morning, you can't be sure. You are sick with hunger and the constant smell of burning makes it worse, but you daren't leave the tunnels yet...

Question Two
Please calculate, to the nearest whole day, how long it would take for a man in a rowing boat to row across the Atlantic Ocean from the UK to the USA, and then walk from the coast to your front doorstep.

You have twenty minutes, starting...

Now!

Thanks for the quiz..I'm gonna go with the second one, If my mathmetic calculations are right..(keep in mind I was a straight C student in my math courses..so this should be pretty accurate:)It would take a man 382 days to reach the shore of the US, and 1 day to reach the doorstep from the shore. Now who's gonna test it out to see if Im right?
:)
Thanks for the quiz SC..I expect something a little more challenging next time :p

Correct! Very well done Bridget. Now please calculate how long it would take for a woman to row across the Atlantic to the UK, and to walk to the centre of London. Same time limit applies.

Once you have calculated this, please calculate how long it would take, and at what latitude and longitude, for the man and woman crossing the Atlantic to meet in the middle. 30 minutes for this one.

well it would take a woman only 378 days..cause we are faster and more skilled than a man, Now to walk to the center of London..I'm gonna go with a day, (again becuase of our superiority over the male gender)I'm stumped on the Lat and Lon...but I'll say 48degrees Lat and 125 degrees Lon..Again keep in mind I've indulged on some glasses of wine tonight.probably not the best time to take a pop quiz:):)

Ok ok, I give in. I'll meet you in the middle.

okay...I'll meet you in the middle, but I will blow your little theory of men being superior to women when I get there 3 days before you:)
